Stamford Living Walls Can Be Beautiful And Beneficial

By Amanda Green

In some ways we seem to be existing in an era of extremes. We use technology almost compulsively in every aspect of our lives, yet we also are interested in thousand year old meditation techniques and diets that our cave ancestors would be proud of. In Connecticut you will find many people intrigued by Stamford living walls. These vertical gardens are beautiful and have a multitude of benefits both artistically and environmentally.

Not only are they wonderful to look at, but they are also good for you. Inside your house, these structures will create oxygen, freshen the air, create a sound barrier, and may even reduce your electric bill. They absorb toxins in the environment as well and are a simple and cost effective way to bring a dramatic flair to the dullest room.

These natural walls will work beautifully outside or inside your home. They are a great way to add greenery to a balcony or patio where space is limited. You can also create wonderful room designs if you decide to add it to the interior. All plants need some sunlight during the day, some more than others. Where you erect the structure and the type of plants you use will be important.

Once you have the idea, you will have to find a way to create it. If you have the right tools and a knack for simple building, you might decide to build the frame yourself. You will need some plans and directions to follow though. It should be easy to get various design plans online. You might also find something at a nursery or home improvement store that will fit your needs. Of course, you can always hire someone to create the structure for you.

Choosing the plants that will go into the wall depends on personal taste and weather. If you live in an area with harsh winters, an outdoor structure may have to include only the hardiest of plants, that survive in the coldest months, with additions made to it as spring approaches. A nursery can be a great help in deciding which plants will work best for your environment.

Maintenance is required for plants to remain healthy and looking good all the time, especially if you opt to put yours on an interior wall. They will have to be watered, pruned, and sprayed for any bugs or diseases that might try to take hold. Your living structure should be far enough away from your house wall so that mold and mildew do not collect and create problems.

The price of living walls will vary wildly depending on the size of it, the complexity of the design and the number and kind of plants you choose to incorporate into it. None of them are cheap, but you can keep the cost down by doing as much of the work as possible yourself and utilizing common plants that are easy to grow.

There are many ways to live a natural, organic life that is also filled with the conveniences of current technology. Living walls can be a bridge between the two worlds.
