Why Every State Should Adopt Video Visitation For Inmates

By Jason Moore

People are accustomed to the traditional visits to the people who are incarcerated. This is the traditional technique that is used by most states. But there has been a call for change after the invention of Video Visitation for Inmates. Although a lot of country heads are aware of the invention, there are still very few states that have adopted the technique. So what are the benefits of this technique and how is it better than the traditional system.

The cost of organizing visits can be very high. Its protocol that every person that accesses the prisoners is inspected and the prisoners have to be inspected too. Also, the time when the convict and the outsider are in contact, there have to be people monitoring them. Therefore, you will find that prisons will hire a lot of guards or have all the guards working during these days. This implies that the state will have to pay overtime and also pay for the new people brought in. But when it is done by video, the monitoring does not require a lot of people, so the cost is cut down.

There are a lot of crimes that are coordinated by inmates while they are still in prison. These crimes are coordinated through the individual that visit these prisoners. When the state uses videos, they can monitor the communication between convicts and the individuals who are visiting them, and they can use the information that they collect to control crime.

There are a lot of cases where convicts have been found with items that are prohibited. For instance, convicts have been found with drugs and even weapons. They access these items from the people who visit them. To avoid these items from getting into the prison system, then there should be limited contact between the prisoners and the visitors and online system offers this separation.

Convicts have families, and they are parents. When children go to prisons, they are exposed to an environment that is unsafe and intimidating. You will find that a lot of parents will prefer not to maintain contact with their kids because they do not want them in the prison environment. With videos, these parents can have contact with their kids while the kids are at the comfort of their homes.

The cost of organizing traditional visitations are costly so the government limits the number of visits that they organize. If the cost is low the there will be more visits organized. The video visitation allows the state to plan for more visits.

The safety of the convicts and that of their families is risked during regular visitations. There are times when people have been attacked, and it can be very hard to predict when this event can take place. When you choose to implement the new visitations system, then the prison system will have an easy time ensuring that everyone is safe.

This technique is very important. But it should not replace regular contact between the inmate and their families. There is so much to be gained from the traditional system, and this video system should be used to complement the traditional system.
